EVENT 1 PARTICIPANTS

Rommie Amaro (UC San Diego Professor of Computational Chemistry and Biophysics) Research on development and application of computational and theoretical techniques to investigate the structure, function, and dynamics of complex biological systems. Integrates applied and basic science components, bridging basic and clinical research.

Tara Javidi (UC San Diego Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Founding Co-Director, Center for Machine-Integrated Computing and Security) Research involves stochastic design and control of sensing, communication, information processing, and learning in modern engineered systems. On a theoretical front: reducing the cost of data acquisition and interactive learning.

V. Ramanathan (UC San Diego, SIO, Distinguished Professor, Atmospheric Studies, and Climate Change) Discovered the greenhouse effect of halocarbons in 1975. With R. Madden, predicted in 1980 that global warming would be detected by 2000. Led the first international NASA/WMO/UNEP assessment on the climate effects of non-CO2 greenhouse gases, and now leads a team of researchers from the UC system developing 10 scalable solutions to arrest global warming.

Mark Reddington (29-year-Partner, LMN Architects, Leader of the Design Team) Shapes LMN's design approach. The firm is a national leader in the design of public buildings, and recipient of numerous awards and honors. In 2000, the American Institute of Architects elevated Reddington to its College of Fellows.
